“Scary Books”

I like reading spooky books.
One author wrote: “Scary stories sell because everyone fears a lot of things that won’t happen. Even things that have no chance of happening.”

Our society seems to thrive on fear and worry. We watch the news every hour of every day—in case something important happens.
But the news seldom helps us look forward to anything positive. Disaster, distrust and doom.

But, for me, the spiritual difference is that I have hope. A deep hope because, in Christ, “all things work together for good.” (Romans 8.28)

“The Release of Prayer”

I received an email today. She wrote: “I’m at a hard place in my life. Yesterday, I went to a small chapel. It was like I was somehow drawn.”

“I knelt there. Silently I cried hesitant tears. My heart was full, but the words I spoke weren’t the reason for my tears.

“I think that my tears were my prayer – I just couldn’t find the words.”

Romans 8:27—“Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

Romans 8:27

“I Don’t Have to Worry About It”

My father-in-law was thinking about buying a new lawnmower.

He said, “Mine is barely enough; I’m always having problems. I need one that’s more than strong enough; then I don’t have to worry about it.”

His old one had 12 horsepower, but from the beginning he had trouble with belts, gears, bearings, etc. So he spent more to get more.

Similarly, I like to think that my strength is enough. Yet the truth is this: “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves…our sufficiency is from God”
